Read Out Loud - Text to Speech (TTS)
Read Out Loud is a Text-to-Speech (TTS) tool that reads the document text out loud to assist users with disabilities.
Note: Only documents containing text content can be read out loud. Documents with no text, for example a scanned page, will not be able to be read out loud.
How to Start Read Out Loud Tool
The Read Out Loud mode must first be activated before it can be used. To activate / deactivate Read Out Loud use one of the methods below.
Using the Toolbar
- Go to View Tab and click on Read Out Loud
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl + Shift + V: Toggles Read Out Loud mode (activate/deactivate)
Using Read Out Loud
Once activated the following options are available for Read Out Loud.
Toolbar
A read out loud toolbar will be shown with the folllwing functions.
- Play: Begin reading the current page
- Pause: Pause readin at the current location
- Stop: Stops reading and resets back to the beginning of the page
- Speed: Use the slider to set the reading speed of the TTS engine
- Continue to Next Page: When selected the TTS engine will continue reading to the next page until it reaches the end of the document
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Ctrl + Shift + V: Toggle Read Out Loud (activate/deactivate)
- Ctrl + Shift + W: Read current page
- Ctrl + Shift + Z: Read from current page to the end of the document
- Ctrl + J: Pause/Resume
- Ctrl + K: Stop
